Over the years the fashion industry has been determined to find a body shape to describe everyone. Why does it matter whether a woman is apple-shaped or pear-shaped? Is it really important in the grand scheme of things?
Well, your body shape is central in determining the fabrics, fits and finishes that will best suit you. We can, of course, simplify matters by describing the top half and bottom half of the body as either angular or contoured.
If you possess an item of clothing, which you have never worn, or just don’t feel good in, there is a possibility it is because the material, cut or fabric does not compliment your body shape.
Remember there is no such thing as the perfect body shape. However, it is important to know your own body, and understand the theory behind what clothes flatter you, in order to prevent making expensive mistakes. Take a look at a couple of examples below:
Apple-shaped women
Apple-shaped women tend to be contoured on the top half of the body and angular on the bottom half of the body. The overall shape is round and the stomach is bigger than the bust. It is important to minimise the stomach, which is possible if you follow some styling tips. For example, avoid clothes that will add bulk or draw attention to the area instead draw attention to your assets.
Pear-shaped women
Pear-shaped women are the reverse of the apple-shaped women. The women have an angular top half of the body and a contoured bottom half of the body. The width of the hips is much larger than the width of the shoulders. Pear-shaped women often have tiny waists and it is therefore important to accentuate the assets and try to create balance between the hips and shoulders.
These are just two possible body shapes - and it's important to remember each woman's body will be different. To find out exactly what body shape you are, and to learn how to dress your shape properly, simply get in touch for a Style Makeover now.
